GLA Information Services

GLA Information Services provides a range of library and information services including regular alerting bulletins, urban and social policy databases, subject guides to Internet resources and a comprehensive library of books and reports, journals and statistics.  For details of charges see the GLA’s fees and charges policy.

Urban and social policy databases

The GLA Information Services databases are internationally recognised as an important source of information about urban and social policy. They contain detailed summaries of books, reports, journal articles and news items, many with links to the full text original document.

The databases are made available through the following services:

  • Urbaline - GLA Information Services main database, available via the Internet to registered users, provides details of over 400,000 documents and is updated daily.
  • Urbadoc - Available to registered users on the Internet, Urbadoc includes the full Acompline and Urbaline databases together with similar databases from partner organisations in France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
  • Social Policy and Practice – Available to registered users on the Internet (through Ovid Technologies Inc), Social Policy and Practice includes the social policy related records from Acompline and Urbaline as well as records provided by IDOX plc, the Centre for Policy on Ageing and the Social Care Institute for Excellence.

Alerting bulletins

GLA Information Services produces a range of subject specific alerting bulletins that highlight new publications, policy initiatives, research and statistics. Subjects covered include community safety and crime, culture, economic and business issues, environment, local management and finance, planning and transport, social policy, housing and health. The bulletins are available in a number of formats by email.

Urban Abstracts

Urban Abstracts, the monthly digest of urban affairs, lists newly published documents on all aspects of urban affairs, social policy and local government. Current subscribers include local government specialists, researchers and policy makers. Urban Abstracts is available by post or electronically.
