Policing and safety

Police Constable with woman in street at night

Our policing and safety section explains who is responsible for public safety and gives you great advice on how to prevent or handle an emergency.

Find your local services

Street level policing is carried out by 33 Borough Operational Command Units. You can locate your local police station here.

If you have a query about fire safety in your area get in touch with your nearest Fire and Community Safety Centre. As well as fighting fires, they’re there to help the public prevent them. Remember, if you find yourself or someone else in immediate danger, call 999 from any phone. It’s a free call and will give you fast access to all emergency services.
